In the earlier days of the Scythedom, the remaining members of the allegedly corrupt human governments were gleaned. Afterward, a number of scythes advocated for the gleaning of those born prior to the post-mortal age, to erase mortal ideals. Many scythes, including Scythe Curie, argued against this; the World Scythe Council eventually deemed the mortal purges to violate the Second Commandment and punished its perpetrators, but not before most people who were born in the mortal age was either gleaned or went into hiding.
